Dennis Bonilla Joins MedSN as President & CEO
Top Oracle University Executive to Lead Medical E-Learning Solution Provider
Culver City, CA (June 25, 2001) — Dennis Bonilla, former head of Oracle University's largest global learning business unit, has joined Medsn as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Bonilla's move to Medsn completes the executive team, and further solidifies the company's role as a leader in bringing multimedia learning solutions to the healthcare industry. Dr. Vikas Bhushan, co-founder of the company, will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Bonilla brings 20 years of industry experience as an international leader in corporate training, education and e-learning. At Oracle University, he served as Vice President, Americas Education with responsibility for development and implementation of all of the firm's educational and training activities in North and South America. His Americas' delivery organization was responsible for educating over 250,000 customers, in addition to 30,000 Oracle internal employees and partners, on Oracle's database platform and e-business applications technologies. As head of the largest global learning business unit, he managed 800 employees and generated more than $300M in annual revenues.
Prior to Oracle, Mr. Bonilla was Vice President, Global Business Development at General Physics Corporation, where he is credited with having increased global training and education business revenue from $8 million to $40 million annually. During his career, he also consulted, developed strategic solutions, and directed programs and trained personnel in the engineering and energy sectors.
"Dennis is the ideal leader to accelerate the adoption of Medsn's unique e-learning and knowledge-transfer solutions into the pharmaceutical industry," said George Jenkins, board member and General Partner, Patricof & Co. Ventures, Inc., Medsn's lead investor. "With nearly a dozen corporate clients, Medsn is demonstrating that its sophisticated medical content — combined with user-friendly technology solutions — is easily deployed in the field. We're excited that Dennis is on board to spearhead this roll out."
Don Lothrop, General Partner at Delphi Ventures added, "Dennis successfully led the migration of Oracle's learning business from the classroom to the Web and understands working with large organizations. His experience is a great complement to Medsn's deep domain knowledge in healthcare, technology and medical education, which is unparalleled in our industry." Along with Delphi Ventures and Patricof & Co, Medsn's investors include GE Equity and Leeds Equity Partners.
"I'm very enthusiastic and excited to lead the organization to the next level," said Mr. Bonilla. "The team at Medsn already has created a superior platform, along with world class content and has positioned itself as the premiere e-learning brand name in the healthcare vertical. Looking ahead, I'm eager to scale the business and maintain a leading position in this space."
Mr. Bonilla earned his MBA from Pace University, New York where he graduated summa cum laude. He earned his BS in Nuclear Engineering Technology from the University of the State of New York. He is a veteran of the US Navy where he led engineering operations on a nuclear submarine in the ballistic missile fleet, SUBLANT
The appointment of Mr. Bonilla follows closely on the heels of the appointment of Roger Moody, a former MSHOW, Genuity and IBM executive, who joined the management team as Chief Financial Officer. According to Dr. Vikas Bhushan, co-founder and CEO of Medschool.com (which changed its name to Medsn earlier this year), "Our executive team and funding is now in place and we are eager to launch the next phase of our growth." Medsn secured $26 million in its second round of funding in November 2000. To date, the company has raised over $38 million to fund its technology development, content acquisition, and business expansion.
