ORATEC Interventions Files Registration Statement for IPO

ORATEC Interventions develops and markets innovative medical devices that use controlled thermal energy to treat spine and joint disorders. The company currently markets two minimally invasive systems, the SpineCATH Intradiscal ElectroThermal Therapy, or IDET, system and the ElectroThermal Arthroscopy System. ORATEC's proprietary systems use heat to modify,cut or remove damaged or stretched soft tissue.

he shares will be offered to the public through an underwriting group managed by Merrill Lynch & Co. and co-managed by J.P. Morgan & Co. and U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray. The offering will be made only by means of a Prospectus.

A Registration Statement relating to these securities has been filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission but has not yet become effective.
